Endeavor

Yesterday we had some added excitement to our day.  Space Shuttle Endeavor flew into Houston, on its way to its new home in California.  Not only was the Shuttle at a local airport for viewing, it also flew very low over much of our area.  We were able to watch/hear it fly over our house during snack time.  The kids were very excited, of course.  We just saw it fly over once, but others have said it circled their house a few times.
After it landed, the Shuttle was on display to the public to come view.  Daniel was traveling for business, so I had to decide if it was worth taking four kids by myself to see it.  I knew there would be traffic and crowds.  I decided to wait until mid-afternoon to go, thinking that by then maybe the traffic would not be as thick.
Well, I was wrong.  It took us just an HOUR to get into the parking lot, due to traffic on the road.  The trip usually would take maybe 20 minutes from my house.  Then, once in the parking lot, myself and the cars that all parked around me found out that we'd parked in a lot very, very far away from the actual shuttle.  It was about 10 other families and mine that made probably over a mile trek to reach the shuttle.  The kids were hot, sweaty, and whining by the time we reached the shuttle.  However, they quickly got excited once they saw the shuttle in person.  They were mesmerized by how large it was in person compared to how small it had seemed in the sky that morning.  They were excited to see our town's fire trucks "guarding" the Shuttle.  Corey was excited to see a large jet, the one that the Shuttle was riding on.
So, while it took much longer than expected, the journey to see the Shuttle was completely worth it.  Aidan pointed out that we had witnessed history, which is true.
