Adoption Time Frame

We've been asked a lot lately about how soon we can adopt "C". Our agency has told us that Texas has a law/requirement that says "C" must be in our home for at least 6 months before we can adopt him. After 6 months, a judge in court can set an official adoption date. So far, the case workers from our agency and CPS still believe we will be able to adopt. CPS, though, is still required to conduct a search for relatives that would be qualified and interested in adopting. Texas highly prefers a child to be adopted in a kinship placement rather than with strangers. The CPS case worker does not seem that any suitable relatives will be found, however, our agency case worker said that anything is possible and she's seen situations when a relative pops up at that no one knew about previously. "C" has been in our home for two months now. Those two months have certainly gone quickly so I am sure the remainder months until he's legally a part of our family will also fly by!
