On Sunday afternoon we had some friends invite us on an impromtu trip to Brazos Bend State Park. Our friends had visited that park before but it was our first time. While we only saw a small portion of the park, our family definitely enjoyed our time there. We had a cookout and ate hotdogs (always a kid favorite), the kids played on a playground, then we went on a walk on one of the many trails around the park. This trail goes around a large swampy area inhabited by alligators and other wildlife. Yes, I said alligators...wild, uncaged alligators. We had four adults, two double strollers, and six children among us, so going to see alligators was a great idea, right? On our nature hike, we quickly saw several alligators in the swampy water. Some were easier to spot than others! We put Daniel in the lead on the trail so that he could fend off any gator attacks. Then, we came upon an alligator lying right on the edge of the path. It was a little too close for a few of us (me included) but we all slowly and bravely walked around the gator. Fortunately, it didn't really pay us any attention. For the rest of the hike, though, I got goosebumps every time I saw another alligator out in the water. We ended up having everyone survive which is always great. It really was a fun trip and the views were beautiful. The kiddos thought it was amazing that we saw alligators, although Olivia kept calling them crocodiles.
